Update: Baltimore gets title shot

The Tribune-Democrat

JOHNSTOWN Baltimore will get a shot at a fifth consecutive AAABA Tournament title.

Youse's Maryland Orioles knocked off previously unbeaten Washington 9-3 on Saturday night at Point Stadium. Washington will play New Orleans at 1 p.m. Saturday for the right to face the four-time defending champion Orioles. The championship will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 1 p.m. game.

Baltimore 11, Johnstown 0

Ed Bach struck out 11 in throwing a one-hitter shortened to eight innings by the mercy rule as Baltimore eliminated Johnstown's Delweld entry from the AAABA Tournament. Delweld went 3-2 in the tournament.

New Orleans 3, Philadelphia 2

New Orleans kept its title hopes alive thanks to Brett Accardo, who knocked home the winning run in the top of the ninth as the Boosters eliminated the Philadelphia ABCO Phillies.

Kyle Olasin walked and stole second to get into scoring position for Accardo, who had entered as a defensive replacement in the eighth. Accardo drilled left-handed reliever Will Blackman’s one strike offering to the left-center gap to plate Olasin, breaking the tie at 2.
