Keipers observe 60th anniversary

JOHNSTOWN — Mr. and Mrs. Donald Keiper of Johnstown have observed their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Rizzo’s Restaurant, Windber.

Mr. Keiper and the former Barbara A. Barkhimer were married Nov. 20, 1953, at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, Johnstown, by the Rev. H.H. Hummel.

Mr. Keiper was born July 9, 1931, in Johnstown, son of Earl and Elizebeth Keiper.

Mrs. Keiper was born Oct. 15, 1932, in Johnstown, daughter of William and Jane Barkhimer.

Mr. Keiper reitred in 1994 from Penelec after 39 years’ service. During his service at Penelec, he served as company statistician, budget director and financial planning and analysis manager.

He is an Air Force veteran, having served in Korea. He is serving as quartermaster of the Korean Service Veterans Association, Post No. 1, Johnstown.

Mrs. Keiper worked at WJAC radio station and Stineman Coal Co.

The Keipers are members of Park Avenue United Church, where Mr. Keiper served for several years as chairman of the finance committee, a member of the board of trustees and was president and treasurer of his Sunday school class. He also was a former member of the church choir.

Mrs. Keiper is a member of the P’s & Q’s Sunday school class, where she served several years as treasurer.

The Keipers are the parents of three children: Jeffrey L. Keiper, Johnstown; Kelli S., wife of Peter Wetzel, Long Island, N.Y.; and Michelle L. Keiper, Johnstown.

There is a grandchild: Nathaniel “Nate” Wetzel.
