Hoppels mark golden date

JOHNSTOWN — Mr. and Mrs. William Hoppel of Johnstown have marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a family gathering hosted by their children at Rizzo’s Restaurant, Windber.

Mr. Hoppel and the former Mary Noel were married May 25, 1963, at St.Michael Roman Catholic Church, Loretto.

Mr. Hoppel was born in Nicktown, son of Irvin and Cecilia Hoppel.

Mrs. Hoppel was born in Munster, daughter of John and Beatrice Noel.

Mr. Hoppel served two years in the Army and graduated from Penn State. He worked at Bethlehem Steel Corp. from 1958 to 1996.

He is active with the Knights of Columbus and has been on the board of directors at the Cambria-Somerset Authority since 2007. He enjoys golfing.

Mrs. Hoppel retired as a registered nurse when her children were born and later volunteered extensively at her church and St. Vincent de Paul Society. She also worked in a local doctor's office for 10 years.

The Hoppels are members of Our Mother of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, Westmont.

They enjoy playing cards and traveling to many countries and spent a few weeks each winter in Orlando, Fla., for many years.

The Hoppels are the parents of three children: Cathy, wife of Steve Gadecki, Bedford, N.H.; Beth, wife of Tim Barnett, Richmond, Va.; and Jim, married to the former Kris Sucha, Fredericksburg, Va.

There are 10 grandchildren: Alex, Chris, Eric, Kara, Matt, Jake, Paul, Anna, Annmarie and Andy.
