Varners mark 50th anniversary

JOHNSTOWN — Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Varner of Windber have marked their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house and dinner at The Oakwood Restaurant, Davidsville.

Mr. Varner and the former Marilyn Phillips were married April 14, 1962, at the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church, Scalp Level.

Mr. Varner was born Nov. 4, 1936, in Windber, son of Emery and Ertie Varner.

Mrs. Varner was born Sept. 14, 1936, in Windber, daughter of Harry and Edith Phillips.

Mr. Varner retired after 33 years’ service from Johnstown Plant, Bethlehem Steel Corp.

He enjoys gardening and being Santa Claus during the holiday season in the Windber/Johnstown area.

Mrs. Varner worked in the dining room at Windber Hospital from 1955 until she was married. Then she became a full-time wife and mother.

She enjoys reading, playing mah jongg, chocolate-covered potato chips and joining her husband during the holiday season as Mrs. Claus.

The Varners are members of the Scalp Level Trinity United Methodist Church, Windber.

They are the parents of a daughter, Sandra, Windber.

There is a very special “adopted” grandson, Michael Pallone.
