JOHNSTOWN — Ronald W. Repak pleaded not guilty‚Äąto six federal extortion and bribery charges this morning and was released on $10,000 unsecured bond.

The long-time  executive director at Johnstown Redevelopment Authority is accused of accepting more than $22,000 in construction work and Steelers tickets from contractors in return for favorable treatment by the authority. The alleged offenses occurred over a four-month period in 2009.

U.S. Magistrate Keith A. Pesto read the charges this morning while Repak sat quietly with his wife Linda in U.S. District Court on Washington Street, just a few hundred feet from Repak’s former office in the Public Safety building.

Repak, 62, of Gerry Lane in Richland Township was ordered to surrender his passport and may not travel outside the western Pennsylvania area without court approval.

Defense attorney Alexander H. Lindsay Jr. said Repak “is anxious to defend himself on these charges.”

He expects the case to go to trial before a jury.
