Confessed child molester gets 30 years

John Wayne Hinton of Somerset will be at least 92 years old before he can apply for parole from prison.

The 62-year-old East Sanner Street resident was sentenced this morning to a minimum of 30 years and a maximum of 60 years in state prison after pleading guilty in February to molesting three young girls. The victims, age 4, 5 and 8, are among 19 Hinton is accused of sexually abusing over more than two decades.

Prosecutors suspect there are many more, Assistant District Attorney Catherine Ann Primavera told Somerset County Judge John M. Cascio today.

Hinton asked the judge to consider imposing the three 10-year-minimum sentences to run concurrently, instead of consecutively, making him eligible for parole in 10 years, but Primavera said the number of victims called for the severe term.
