Name of alleged gunman released

JOHNSTOWN — A 45-year-old Johnstown man was injured in a shooting at Richland Township Police Department this morning, according to the Cambria County district attorney.

Kevin McGee of Johnstown open fire in the parking lot outside the police department on Schoolhouse Road about 10:30 this morning, and then was shot by a responding officer, District Attorney Kelly Callihan said in an afternoon news conference.

No motives were given for McGee’s actions.

“He used a weapon to shoot into a cruiser, which alerted officers who were inside of the building that there was somewhat of an alarm going on outside,” Callihan said. “Officers were able to see what was occurring through a window in the building and took the steps necessary to contain the situation.”

Callihan said that McGee was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for the gunshot wound.

‘I don’t have any more of an update on his status at this point,” Callihan said during the earlier news conference.
