BILL EGGERT | Stroke: Know the risk factors, warning signs

Bill Eggert
For The Tribune-Democrat

— Dictionaries define the word ‘stroke’ as: 1) the act or instance of striking, 2) a sudden action or movement, 3) a brilliant or inspired act, 4) the striking of a clock, 5) a light touch or caress, or 6) rupture of a blood vessel in the brain.

It is the last definition I will discuss in this column, as May is Stroke Awareness Month.

While most folks understand what a stroke is, many do not comprehend the degree of devastation it can cause stroke survivors and their caregivers.

Nor does the public at large realize how this silent killer can strike without a moment’s notice.
