BILL EGGERT: We all love Lucy

BILL EGGERT
For The Tribune-Democrat

JOHNSTOWN — She was America’s favorite redhead. Her film career stretched over 40 years; her more successful television career lasted over 30 years.

She was considered a comic genius, who held her own with the likes of Harpo Marx, Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Red Skelton and Carol Burnett.

Yet her best partners in comedy were a former Broadway chorus girl, a veteran movie character actor (over 100 films to his credit) and a Cuban immigrant/U.S. citizen and bandleader/singer who was also her husband: Vivian Vance, William Frawley and Desi Arnaz, respectively.

She was Lucille Ball, America’s greatest comedienne, and this month (this weekend, in fact) she is being recognized for her 100th birthday in Jamestown, N.Y.
