SOMERSET — Roy Thomas Penrose III is being charged by Pennsylvania State Police in Somerset with 36 commercial break-ins in Somerset and Westmoreland counties.

Police said Penrose was taken into custody at his home in the 100 block of Martins Drive in Friedens on Thursday. He is being housed in the Somerset County Jail on $75,000 bond.

Penrose is accused of early morning break-ins at businesses in August in September, where police say he stole money, lottery tickets, guns and other items – many of which were recovered from his home. Authorities said they believe that he has a drug problem.

Police said that no charges are expected to be filed against anyone else, although the case remains open.

Penrose is charged with criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property.

Saturday's editions of The Tribune-Democrat will have more details about Penrose and the crimes he is accused of committing.
