92-year-old owner takes part in McDonald's demolition

BY ARLENE JOHNS
The Tribune-Democrat

“You cannot stand still,” said Estelle Musico when asked why she was having the current Westwood Plaza McDonald’s torn down and replaced with a new one.

The words are ones Musico lives by.

The 92-year-old owner was on the site Wednesday morning operating the bulldozer as the demolition got under way.

The Lower Yoder restaurant is one of six Musico owns in the region, including three in Somerset, where she has an office and resides during the week. She also owns a home in the Pittsburgh area.

Musico said the new facility will allow for more equipment in the kitchen to meet the demands of McDonald’s ever-expanding menu.

Although the restaurant will not have an outdoor playground, it will include an indoor “kid’s place” with interactive video games geared to both preschoolers and school-age children.

“It will be attractive to the younger generation,” Musico said.

The modern structure will replace one built in 1978.

“We have to shine those golden arches,” Musico said.

The new restaurant is expected to open in mid-August.
