Builder will erect modular home next to business

By SHAWN PIATEK
The Tribune-Democrat

Home buyers easily can become confused when it comes to the variety of structures at their disposal today.

Determining the difference between a traditional “stick-built” home, a factory-built home and a modular home isn’t easy for the unindoctrinated.

Some people even can confuse the construction process and building quality of mobile homes with other types of structures if they are not well informed.

That’s why DB Homes of Richland Township is making an investment in a home where no one will ever live.

On July 15, the modular-home builder will have one of its structures placed on a foundation next door to its offices on Eisenhower Boulevard.

“We’ll now be able to show the type of quality, care and craftsmanship that goes into our homes,” said Keith Skowron, general manager of DB Homes.

“As it is now, we have to take people out to the homes of our customers, and you just don’t get the same feel.

“Plus, this model will be loaded up with a bunch of different options and features that are available. That will allow us to not only show the home but how it can be customized to have your own unique feel.”

Skowron said the modular homes sold by DB are significantly different than mobile homes and other types of manufactured housing.

He said they are constructed much in the same manner as traditional stick-built homes – using 4-by-6-inch exterior walls, for instance.

The only difference is that these homes are largely constructed off site.

“We’re a modular home company, but we get socked with that mobile home label,” Skowron said.

“Hopefully, this will show that it’s a whole different level of construction, and that it’s a whole different deal from a mobile home or a factory home.”

Skowron said that the home – a 2,428-square-foot model – will be placed on the foundation and completely weatherized in the same day.

The internal work will take a little longer to complete, but the home will be ready to show after a few weeks.

In fact, Skowron noted that DB has planned a grand opening of the model for Aug. 23, and construction will be completed by then. Free tours, informational seminars and food will be available.

The company also has announced that the grand opening will additionally serve as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity.

It is accepting donations through Aug. 8 and will hold a raffle at the grand opening.

For more information on the grand opening or to learn of ways to donate to the Habitat for Humanity fundraiser, contact DB Homes at 262-7525.
