Moo Echo Dairy, a Somerset area business that has been bottling its own milk and making other dairy products, has expanded its offerings.
The dairy, located on Route 31 two miles west of Somerset, has added eight flavors of ice cream to the dozen it has been selling at its store, said Henry Stoltzfus, the dairy’s owner. The new flavors include teaberry, lemon dream, coconut and chocolate chip.
Other new products are cheese curds in four flavors and milkshakes in a dozen flavors, he said.
Stoltzfus said his family-owned dairy farm decided two years ago to start bottling and selling its own milk.
The idea of producing more products sprouted with the dairy starting to make ice cream and baking items such as pies, bread and sweet rolls.
The dairy store uses its homemade bread to make four types of submarine sandwiches and hoagies – roast beef, Italian, turkey and ham.
A variety of groceries and spices also are available.
Ice cream is a popular item now because of the summertime heat, Stoltzfus said.
Milk is always popular.
“Depending on which day it is, you actually can buy milk that came from cows that were milked in the morning,” he said.
The dairy store is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays and Saturdays. It is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.
There are a half-dozen employees in addition to family members working at the store.
