Business people: Associate professor receives award

— Dawn Edmiston, associate professor of management and marketing at St. Vincent College’s Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government, has received the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Teaching Excellence Award in Region 2.

ACBSP recognizes individuals anually from each of its 10 regions who exemplify teaching excellence in the classrooms.

At St. Vincent, Edmiston teaches Internet and global marketing courses. In addition, she serves as a marketing consultant to the Fred Rogers Center. Her research has been featured in the International Journal of Educational Advancement, Journal of Marketing for Higher Education and publications of the American Marketing Association and Marketing Management Association.

She received the 2011 Marketing Management Association AxcessCapon Teaching Innovation Award and the 2012 Middle Atlantic Association of Colleges of Business Innovation in Teaching Prize.

Prior to joining St. Vincent, Edmison held marketing management roles with IBM Business Consulting Services, Pricewaterhousecoopers Management Consulting Services and Discovery Communications (Discovery Channel, TLC, Travel Channel, Animal Planet and Discovery Channel Online).

She is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she received a bachelor’s degree, and Columbia University, where she earned a master’s degree in business administration. She earned a doctorate from the University of Maryland University College.

MetLife employee earns recognition

Robert E. Vamos, financial services executive of MetLife Resources, has earned MetLife’s leaders level of recognition, an honor bestowed to a select set of MetLife top producers, specifically those who exemplify the highest standards of personal integrity, professionalism and customer service across the company.

Vamos, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, has worked in the financial services industry for 22 years.

Salon Vizions employees attend beauty show

Melissa McBee and Samantha Musulin of Salon Vizions Inc., Johnstown, recently attended the International Beauty Show held in New York City.

For two days, they were taught by leading educators in the industry on various fashion-forward, out-of-the-box and advanced skills.

Research employee receives appointment

Scott Roberts, son of Jerry and Barbara Roberts of Cresson, has been appointed to the position of petrochemicals research director and manager of Hull Research and Technology Center, Hull, England.

He will lead the global research team in providing key technical capability to petrochemicals SPU, in particular the areas of catalyst and process research and development and scale up for all petrochemical product lines. In addition, he will set the strategic direction for and ensure efficient operation of HRTC.

Roberts is a 1982 graduate of Penn Cambria High School and a 1986 graduate of Penn State, where he received a degree in chemical engineering.

He received a fellowship to the University of Pennsylvania and earned a doctorate in 1989.

Roberts lives in Naperville, Ill., with his wife, Cindi, and two sons.

Johnstown resident attains top level

Paul S. Carpenter of Carpenter Financial Services, Johnstown, has qualified for the exclusive Top of the Table of the Million Dollar Round Table – The Premier Association of Financial Professionals.

Carpenter is a four-year MDRT member and a two-time Top of the Table qualifier.

Top of the Table status is the highest level of MDRT membership and places Carpenter among the top professionals in the global life insurance and financial services industry. It recognizes Carpenter for demonstrating exceptional professional knowledge, client service and ethical conduct.

In addition to recognizing career accomplishments, Top of the Table membership offers Carpenter the opportunity to further improve professional skills by sharing ideas and best practices with other leading professionals at the Top of the Table annual meeting and other educational forums.

Financial adviser receives promotion

Mark Vibostok, financial adviser in the Ligonier branch office of Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, has been named vice president of investments. The promotion recognizes Vibostok’s expertise and accomplishments on behalf of his clients.

Vibostok has been serving clients since 1999.  He is a graduate of St. Francis University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and the Eberly College of Business at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he received a master’s degree in finance.

Recently, he completed a wealth-management certification program offered at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Vibostok also earned the professional designation of Accredited Wealth Management AdvisorSM through the College for Financial Planning.  

He is the board president of the Conemaugh Valley School District and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 467 and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Alma Lodge 523.

Physician is specialist in clinical hypertension

Dr. Samer S. Nasser has been designated through August 2022 as a specialist in clinical hypertension through the Specialist Program Inc., affiliated with the American Society of Hypertension Inc.

Nasser also is American board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He attended medical school at American University of Beirut and did his residency and fellowship at SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital.

He has been with The Kidney Center since October 2009.

Johnstown chef receives award

Robert Forquer, a Johns-town chef, has received the Hermann G. Rusch Chef’s Achievement Award from the American Culinary Federation during general session for the 2013 ACF Northeast Regional conference.

The award recognizes a chef who has generously shared his knowledge with others throughout the years and continues to be a source of information and guidance for other culinarians.

Forquer is a candidate for the national award that will be presented during the ACF National convention in Las Vegas on July 21-25.

Forquer, an ACF-certified executive chef for 20 years, began his foodservice career in 1967 as a dishwasher and sandwich maker at the Holiday Inn. He then obtained a position at Sunnehanna Country Club, Johnstown, as a prep cook and worked his way up to executive chef.

During his 34-year career at the club, Forquer mentored and trained numerous apprentices. Through his work as a mentor, he decided to become a chef educator.

In 2005, Forquer became a culinary-arts instructor at Commonwealth Technical Institute at the Hiram G. Andrews Center in Johnstown, until he retired in December 2012.

In 2002, he was inducted into the American Academy of Chefs, an honor society for chefs, and received a President’s Medallion in 2010. Forquer is chapter president for ACF Conemaugh Valley Culinary Association.

Fraud examiners present program

Stephanie Stohon and Tara Gearhart, certified public accountants at Wessel & Company, recently presented “Understanding & Preventing Fraud at Your Nonprofit” to fire companies and other nonprofit organizations at the Richland fire hall.

Stohon and Gearhard are certified fraud examiners and have worked with U.S. attorneys, Secret Service, FBI, state and local law enforcement in uncovering fraud.

Penn Highlands names director of planning

Larry Brugh has been named as the director of career planning and employer services at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.

Brugh served as director of career services and assistant dean of student affairs/director of career services at Mount Aloysius since 1994.

He is a graduate of Pitt-Johnstown, where he received a bachelor’s degree in sociology, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a master’s degree in student personnel services.
