    Conner Buttry and Aaron Burkett will make their debuts in the PIAA Wrestling Championships this morning, but they are quite familiar with a state tournament at the Giant Center in Hershey.
    Each has been a fixture on the Chestnut Ridge squad that has made back-to-back appearances in the state dual-meet tournament. That familiarity could help them, along with returning state medalist Austin Buttry, when the three Lions hit the mats in Hershey this morning.

    Greater Johnstown eighth grader Carnell Andrews entered an elite club by successfully defending his Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling championship this past weekend in Greensburg.
    Andrews placed first in the state at 124 pounds this year after winning the 115-pound state championship in 2013.

    Central Cambria freshman Max Murin was the only area wrestler to capture gold Saturday during the PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional tournament at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
    The 106-pounder edged out Penn Cambria’s Nolan Link 2-0 in the bracket’s championship bout.

    While wrestling in the lowest possible varsity weight class, it appears that there isn’t a stage too big for Central Cambria freshman Max Murin.
    At least that’s what he’s shown during the first day of the PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional tournament at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

    The Pitt-Johnstown wrestling program has been among the best at the NCAA Division II level for decades under veteran coach Pat Pecora.
    Three reasons the Mountain Cats have such a respected reputation on the national level will be in Cleveland for the Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame ceremony on March 13.

  • District 6 lists Class A, AA seedings

    On Tuesday, District 6 basketball chairman T.J. Kakabar released the seedings for Class A and AA for the upcoming basketball tournament.
    The Portage girls and the boys from Bishop Carroll and Richland all earned top seeds in their respective classes.
