CamTran and Chiefs team for season

The Johnstown Chiefs announced Tuesday that they have partnered with CamTran to reward transit riders with tickets and discounts to Chiefs home games at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

The “Go Chiefs! Go CamTran!” promotion will begin on Sept. 1. Each month during the Chiefs’ ECHL season, CamTran will keep track of which monthly pass holder rides the most. At the end of each month, the “biggest rider” will be awarded a ticket to six Chiefs games. A Chiefs player will hand-deliver those tickets.

“The Chiefs are excited to partner with CamTran on this great promotion,” Chiefs General Manager Bill Bredin said.

“It is a unique opportunity for people to take advantage of the services that CamTran provides and enjoy Chiefs hockey as well.”

“We’re always looking to give back to our riders in some way,” said CamTran Executive Director Rose Lucey-Noll. “And partnering with the Chiefs makes sense because their games are fun and local.”

The Inclined Plane also will rename its multipass ticket the “Puck Pass.” With it, riders can ride the Incline 10 times for only $10, and when presented at the ticket gate, they’ll receive $2 off their walk-up ticket for any Chiefs home game. On Saturday nights, they can present it for a $2 discount on any entrée at City View Bar & Grill atop the Inclined Plane.



Chiefs re-sign high-scoring Robinson

The Johnstown Chiefs announced Tuesday that the ECHL team re-signed left wing Matt Robinson.

“The Chiefs had very high expectations of Matt coming into last season. Unfortunately his season was cut short due to injury,” Chiefs General Manager Bill Bredin said. “However, Matt has been working hard this offseason and should be ready to make a significant contribution from day one.”

The Chiefs originally acquired Robinson last September from Alaska as part of a trade that sent all-star forward Alex Imbeault to the Aces.

Robinson’s 2008-09 season got off to a slow start with only one assist in his first six games, but as the calendar changed to November so did the 24-year-old’s fortunes. Over a five-game stretch from Nov. 2-14 Robinson tallied three goals and five assists including a season-high three point (two goals, one assist) effort in a 7-4 win over Cincinnati on Nov. 12. A knee injury ended the 6-foot-1 forward’s season after Nov. 16.

A native of South Surrey, British Columbia, Robinson spent his first two seasons with the Alaska Aces. He produced 71 points (40 goals, 31 assists) in 117 regular season games. He also proved to be a steady producer in the postseason with six points (3G, 3A) in 23 Kelly Cup playoff games.
