JOHNSTOWN — BASKETBALL

Shanksville trips Fannett-Metal

SHANKSVILLE – Ryan Platt scored a game-high 27 points to lead second seed Shanksville-Stonycreek to a 71-43 win against seventh-seeded Fannett-Metal in a District 5, Class A quarterfinal.

Shanksville-Stonycreek was 16 of 20 from the free throw line.

“We were on with our foul shots tonight,” said Vikings head coach Robert Snyder. “I think that played a big factor in the outcome. I also thought defensively we were sound for all four quarters.”

The Vikings’ Jake Wilt had 16 points and Joe Hudak tallied 10.

Walker Bannister led the Tigers with 18 points.

California rolls past UPJ women

CALIFORNIA – Kate Seebohm scored a game-high 23 points to help California defeat Pitt-Johnstown 94-65 in a PSAC clash.

California’s Miki Glenn tallied 21 points, Elena Atonenko and Irina Kukolj each had 14 points.

The Vulcans took advantage of the Mountain Cats’ mishaps and scored 46 points off of turnovers.

Pitt-Johnstown’s Nicole Carman led the team with 16 points and Leah Hansen scored 15 points in the road loss. 

Vulcans defeat Mountain Cats

CALIFORNIA – Alonzo Murphy scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help rally the Vulcans past Pitt-Johnstown in the second half and take a 74-67 win.

California outscored UPJ 17-9 in the last seven minutes to clear a one-point lead the Mountain Cats had.

The Vulcans’ Tynell Fortune tallied 14 points and Chris WIlliams had 13 points in the PSAC victory.

Pitt-Johnstown’s Bill Luther scored a game-high 26 points and Ian Vescovi earned 12 points in the road loss. 

Luther made five 3-point field goals in the game. That puts him third all-time at Pitt-Johnstown. 

The Mountain Cats are now 12-12 on the season.
