VOLLEYBALL

Harvard beats St. Francis


LORETTO – The St. Francis men’s volleyball team opened its Eastern Intercollegate Volleyball Association portion of the schedule with a straight-sets loss to visiting Harvard.

The Crimson (3-0 overall, 1-0 in conference) defeated the Red Flash (1-6, 0-1), 25-22, 26-24 and 25-23.

After winning the first set, Harvard scored the final three points of the second set before surging to an 8-2 lead in the third set en route to the win.

Adam Barba led St. Francis with 12 kills and Logan Patterson finished with 11 kills. Nick Bancroft chipped in with 10 digs.



HOCKEY

Syracuse blanks PSU women


SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Penn State women’s hockey team played at Syracuse on Friday and the Nittany Lions left with a 1-0 loss.

Penn State goalie Nicole Paniccia made 47 saves, but PSUā€ˆfell to 7-15-1 overall and 1-9-1 in the Collehe Hockey America Conference.

Nicole Renault scored on a rebound for the Orange (13-11-1, 7-3-1). It was Renault’s first college goal.

Tess Weaver, a sophomore forward from Windber who played for the Greater Johnstown High School team, played on the fourth line for Penn State.
