BASKETBALL

SFU names captains

LORETTO – Throughout last season, it was no secret that the St. Francis University men’s basketball team was amidst a youth movement.

This season’s Red Flash leadership will reflect that shift as junior Earl Brown and sophomore Greg Brown have assumed co-captain roles.

Following a promising freshman campaign in 2011-12, Earl Brown exploded onto the scene in the second half of last season, posting seven consecutive double-doubles, averaging 13.6 points and 15.4 rebounds over the span to raise some eyebrows around the league.

Brown scored 16 points and had 25 rebounds Jan. 3 against Central Connecticut, with the rebound total being a national game-high.

Greg Brown made an early impact on last year’s squad and added stability to the point guard position.

He was one of only two St. Francis players to play in all 29 games.

The Red Flash open the season on Nov. 8 at Fordham.
