A shot at the final buzzer by Shelby Coughenour gave Berlin Brothersvalley a 59-57 win over Conemaugh Township on Wednesday evening in the District 5 Class A consolation game at the UPJ Sports Center.
“Day in and day out, you can count on her to come play,” Berlin coach Rachel Prosser said after the game. “She’s a heck of a shooter and a heck of a competitor. She’s been a very good leader for us this year.”
Conemaugh Township wary of Northern Bedford
Conemaugh Township and Northern Bedford will meet in a rematch of last season’s District 5 Class AA boys basketball championship tonight at Pitt-Johnstown’s Sports Center.
Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.
Southern Fulton advances past Conemaugh Township
In a tight Indian war at Bedford Area High School on Saturday afternoon in a District 5 Class A girls’ semifinal game, top-seeded Southern Fulton bested the fourth-seeded Conemaugh Township 47-36.
Berlin, Ridge 1-2 in 5-AA tourney

Conemaugh Township girls hang on to win
In a game of multiple momentum swings, Conemaugh Township’s girls’ basketball squad overcame a slow start and made key plays down the stretch to defeat visiting McConnellsburg 50-45 and advance to the District 5-A semifinals.
The fourth-seeded Indians (17-5) fell behind the Spartans (13-10) by as many as nine in the first quarter before dominating the second and building a 29-21 lead. McConnellsburg battled back to within one in the third, and the Spartans trailed by only 43-41 with 2:32 left in the game.
Chestnut Ridge, Berlin expected to dominate District 5-AA tourney
During the dual-meet season, the path to District 5 supremacy led through either Berlin Brothersvalley or Chestnut Ridge.
When the District 5 Class AA individual tournament opens today at Windber High School, most weight classes will have a distinct Chestnut Ridge or Berlin flavor in the top seeds.
Conemaugh Township holds off Tussey Mountain in AA
A hot start for the Conemaugh Township Indians translated to a playoff victory as the Indians topped Tussey Mountain 67-56 Wednesday night in a District 5 Class AA boys quarterfinal at Conemaugh Township Area High School.
With the victory, Conemaugh Township (18-5) faces Southern Fulton on Friday night. The Titans finish the season at 12-9.
