READERS' FORUM 8/20 | Vocal veterans have been called to duty

America is a land where its people believe in freedom so greatly that they shed their blood proudly – not only for their country but for any people in the world who desire it.

This alone makes America the greatest land ever. Let an evil movement grab hold in our land and its people will rise up to crush it. Yet, slowly, the ones who react first are a dying breed.

Wars of the past and present have given us millions of proud veterans who served our country, but those who have grown old and are fading away are doing so in numbers far greater then they who follow in their footsteps.

The once-proud Americans are slowly being driven to a point of submissiveness, yet it’s the veterans who will rise up to meet the evil and never ask, “Where are the rest of the people?”

These veterans are the highest generals to the lowest grunts, yet when they speak up, these great ones are deemed swift boaters, communists and liars.

As these vets speak out against others who may not have been truthful, Americans see them as traitors. But they are forced to speak up against the evil they see, the liars who proclaim to be honorable.

So the next time you hear swift boats mentioned as a way of calling a politician unworthy, just remember these veterans are once again rising up to the challenge – something that has called them to duty.

You may not understand or care, yet these veterans who stand tall and believe in what they do will die for you without fear.
