Readers' Forum 11-21 | Lack of hockey fans perplexing

JOHNSTOWN — I am very disappointed by the attendance this year at the Johnstown Tomahawks hockey games. The arena should be full.

I know that there is competition with high school sports, but there are enough people who don’t attend Friday night football.

So many decried the loss of hockey when the Chiefs left. A few hockey faithful came and supported the Wheeling Nailers, but the Nailers wasn’t Johnstown’s team. Well, Johnstown has its own team now with the Tomahawks. The level of play is good, the games are exciting and tickets are very reasonable.

We just had the second Subway night with six goals scored. Ticket holders were entitled to get a free six-inch sub.

The Tomahawks organization is top-notch and is doing so much for the community. Johnstowners need to get out to games and support this great team. These players are not paid. They are here because they love to play hockey and want to increase their skills.

Johnstown has already earned a reputation as one of the best places to come to play hockey. These players want to come here, so let’s give them our support or the T-shirts will be saying “Hockey is gone, again” instead of “Hockey is back” to stay.

Writer saving money on new insurance plan

I just signed up for a new insurance policy after I was notified that my current policy will end on Jan. 1.

The end result was the purchase of a gold policy that will cost me almost $22 less per month than I am paying now.

I can’t be the only one who will benefit big time.

Gov’t only operates through taxpayers

The government is not a business. Everyone forgets it makes no money, it produces no goods, it is only a service.

Politicians, and the president, are to work for us.

The only way the government has money is from the taxes taken from us who work or own businesses. At the rate government is taxing us, it is putting us out of work and making it impossible for businesses to operate. We all will be out of work.

Also, the government will fail if it has no tax money.
