In response to Dr. J. Michael Moses’ letter of Oct. 1 (“Obama’s record speaks volumes”): He throws stats at us that would lead us to believe President Obama created this mess.
Four years ago, we were in a free fall. Steadily, we have been gaining jobs through the recovery. The stock market is healthy after tanking in 2008, when gas prices were $4 a gallon.
By electing Mitt Romney, the “temporary” Bush tax cuts for the wealthy would stay in place while the rest of us pay for them. We have seen how well they have worked for us since being implemented in 2000.
During a recent deadly attack in the Mideast, we saw Obama’s measured response, as opposed to the extreme approach of Romney.
Romney’s actions illustrate a campaign strategy in which no tragedy is too great to exploit if it will energize the base.
The Republican Party, in a plan hatched by (U.S. Sen.) Mitch McConnell on the night of the president’s inauguration, vowed Obama would be a one-term president – basically, it was “made to fail” as the Republican Party’s No. 1 goal.
The fact Republicans would sacrifice the good of their country for their own party’s gains is reprehensible. It disgusts me that any party claiming to represent the country can be so dedicated to the failure of one person and that they would thwart anything that would allow him to be labeled a success.
The opposite of patriotism – no matter what they say.
What happened to Dem Party of ’60s?
Never have I seen a federal government as far left as this one. How did we get here? This is definitely not the Democratic Party of the 1960s. They trample on the Constitution that they’ve sworn to uphold, while ignoring the will of the American people and eroding the moral foundation of this great nation.
They are printing and spending money at an unsustainable record pace, and are incurring massive debt on future generations.
What ever happened to common sense?
Domestic and foreign policies are a mess. It’s hard for voters to know what’s really going on because the mainstream media have too cozy a relationship with those in power. Where can we get the truth?
This administration and its unconstitutional czars have created an overregulated, anti-business climate that is costing us massive amounts of jobs.
We need statesmen, not politicians, to lead this country. Freedom is something people die for, and is too precious to trade for unsustainable government dependency.
America has come to a fork in the road. Pray that we choose the right path, because it will affect us for generations to come.
It’s a dangerous world. What kind of America do you want to live in? This election is too important to ignore. It may be the most important election of our lives.
Do your part; get out and vote to save this great country. Do it for the sake of yourself, your children and grandchildren.
Catholics must nix ‘abortion’ candidate
Why be a Catholic if you are not going to follow the authority or the magisterium endowed upon us by Christ?
We need to be informed and consistent with our Catholic moral and fundamental rights. You may feel good avoiding our teachings if you have a priest who does not explain this to you. All our priests should be explaining what our church’s teachings are on the most evil act performed on a helpless baby in the mother’s womb.
As the Holy See has pointed out in the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith:
“Democracy must be based on the true and solid foundation of non-negotiable ethical principles, which are the underpinning of life in society.” (CPL 3)
“A well-informed Christian conscience does not permit one to vote for a political program or an individual law that contradicts the fundamental contents of faith and morals.” (CPL 4)
To vote for a candidate such as President Obama is not morally permissible; you would become an accomplice in the moral evil at issue (abortion).
You must sacrifice your feelings on other issues because you cannot participate in any way for a candidate who promotes abortion. This is our Catholic teachings.
God takes care of the rest.
Thanks to the Rev. Leo Arnone for his Sept. 12 letter on the Democratic National Convention, “Democrats denied God three times.”
President Obama has done enough damage.

Cartoonist’s query answered scientifically
The discovery of DNA was the death blow that ended the evolution theory. More dirt needs to be shoveled onto the discredited evolution theory graves.
In the editorial cartoon that appeared on Sept. 25, the question was asked: “How do you explain sea ice at record low levels?” The cartoonist’s answer was a “hair dryer” was used.
The scientific answer is: Place an ice cube in a glass of ice water. Half of the ice cube is emerged in the water (iceberg). The other half will be extending above the surface waterline. This waterline is just at the top of the glass, ready to overflow if additional water is added.
When the ice cube melts, the surface water level remains unchanged. There is no spill-over. The ice expands upon freezing because of the hexagonal open structure of the ice crystals; therefore, how much volume does all those trillions of open spaces in the crystals constitute?
That volume equals the volume of the ice extending above the waterline. When the ice (iceberg) melts, the part above the surface water level fills in the open structures as they collapse.
Will New York be washed away when all of the icebergs are melted away during a “global warming” period?
One should tell Al Gore the oceans would rise only a little, but only because icebergs are composed of fresh water.
They form above sea level and break off and fall into the sea on occasion and not all at once.

Attempts at divisiveness not the solution I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve my community as a member of the Westmont Hilltop Board of Education. My wife and I are proud alumni of the class of 1996. I am also proud to say my children will be attending the Westmont Hilltop School District for the next 14 years.
I applied for this position knowingly, thoughtfully and with a sense of duty to give something back to my community. I truly believe that all who know me understand my qualifications for this position, my intentions as a member of the board and my affection for this school district.
If anyone who does not know me has concerns about my qualifications, I would be happy to provide them with a copy of my curriculum vitae.
When I decided to pursue this position, I understood that it would require me to hear the concerns of every member of my community. I also understood that I would be responsible to carefully consider those concerns with every decision I make.
Now that I have taken an oath to hold this position, I intend to do just that. I can understand why my dedication to consider the concerns of the entire community may be disconcerting to someone trying to impose his will on the rest of the community. I do not believe, however, that such behavior is productive for our community.
In my opinion, Mr. Larkin, we are better served working together, rather than against each other (Readers’ Forum, Oct. 4).
Blacks have been insulted, manipulated
Barb Smith states in her letter on Sept. 29 (“Look around, Obama rebuilding economy”) that The Tribune-Democrat leans right. A galling statement for a supporter of a president whom has had the liberal media cover his pathological lies and treasonous acts for four years.
Anyone who voted for Obama in 2008 owes the rest of us an apology.
Daily, Obama demonizes people who have done their fair share and who pick up the slack for those who refuse to do the same.
All the while, he and his wife lavish themselves with outlandish vacations and perks, costing the taxpayers huge amounts.
I say to the black voter that you’ve been duped. You’ve been insulted, used and manipulated. The Democratic Party has created an unholy alliance with certain civil-rights leaders and with Planned Parenthood, resulting in countless unborn black babies being murdered.
Planned Parenthood has been far more lethal to black lives than the KKK. Though, not to forget, the Democrats started the KKK and original targets were Republicans, both black and white.
An estimated 3,446 blacks and 1,297 whites died at the end of KKK ropes from 1882 to 1964.
Obama, the Democratic Party and their black civil-rights allies have saturated the black community with lies.
They violate everything you and I believe as Christians.
