Readers' Forum 3-24 | How well do you know God?

JOHNSTOWN — We will be observing Holy Week very soon. There was a man who made a huge difference in my life. Do you know him?

He was lied to and spit upon. He was mocked, ridiculed and whipped. They separated him from his mother, nailed him between two thieves. He never said a word.

But he did say seven things from the cross in his dying hours:

-- “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do.”

-- “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

-- To his mother, “Woman, this is your son.” To his disciples, “This is your mother.”

-- “My God, my God. Why have you forsaken me?”

-- “I thirst.”

-- “It is finished.”

-- “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”

Yes, they thought they had killed him. My Bible states he rose from the dead with all power in his hand. Even death could not hold him down.

On Good Friday, the Greater Conemaugh Ministerium of Churches will carry a cross symbolizing the walk that Jesus made for each and every one of us. I plan to help carry it.

Tell me, do you know him? To God be the glory.

We must continue what fathers’ created

I am a resident of Adams Township. It is 2013, the election of 2012 is past.

We live in a democracy created by our forefathers. We live in the best part of the world.

I appreciate what my father, mother, grandparents and everyone before me worked for and created for us – the public of the United States. It is our obligation to follow through with this undertaking. We as a people need to realize that all people are created equal.

There was only one person in this world who was perfect. That person died on a cross and sacrificed himself for each and every one of us. That person is our Lord God.

Remember, someday we will have to answer to him, for he will decide our fate.
