Senior hoops at UPJ

Skills of region’s best will be on display

— Colored eggs and baskets filled with synthetic grass aren’t the only signs of Easter in our region.

The sound of squeaking shoes and bouncing basketballs are also becoming a reminder that the holiday is near.

The sixth annual AmeriServ Senior Hoops Showcase will be held

on Saturday at the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center.

The all-star game, which brings together the top senior boys and girls from across The Tribune-Democrat’s coverage area, has become an annual tradition.

The game, which was started after the decline of Chupek Classic, has provided the best players in the area a chance to show off their skills one final time. Thanks to the generous support of AmeriServ, the game has quickly developed into one of the most prestigious all-star events in the region, no matter the sport.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday afternoon at UPJ. The girls’ event tips off at 1 p.m. while the boys’ game starts at 3.

The Tribune-Democrat is thrilled to again be a part of the event and encourage all basketball fans in the area to come watch these outstanding young men and women showcase their skills.
