Big doings downtown

— We applaud the many people, groups and business sponsors responsible for what should be a great time this evening in downtown Johnstown.

A Christmas parade featuring large, helium-filled balloons, a Central Park light-up, holiday music provided by the Johnstown Symphony Chorus, a two-mile benefit run/walk – and yes, Santa Claus.

A wonderful tradition continues. Plaudits to the organizer, the Discover Downtown Johnstown Partnership; Sharyn Spinelli, event coordinator; Fox 8/ABC 23, sponsor of the balloon presentation; Wings of Hope, a Hooversville charity overseeing the run/walk beginning at 5:40; the symphony chorus, which will sing carols from 5:15 to 5:45; the corporate sponsors, volunteers and marchers responsible for the parade beginning at 6; and the city and its public works department for installing the park lights.

It should be a magical night for everyone, especially the children.

We hope to see you there.
