On Dec. 4, I had the privilege of attending the funeral of a World War II Marine veteran, a member of “The Greatest Generation.”
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Conemaugh Valley Detachment 287, Marine Corps League, for providing a moving send-off to one of the thousands of men who bravely served our country.
The playing of taps, the 21-gun salute and the presenting of the flag were
Thank you so much.
It was an honor to be there.
Time to stop the hate and work together
It is so sad that some people in our town are still harboring hate for President Obama.
There was a letter in the Readers’ Forum stating that a majority in Cambria and Somerset counties voted for Mitt Romney.
The majority of these folks are middle class or poor, yet they are foolish enough to support the people who are about to take food off their tables, and money from their kids’ educations.
It’s just plain hate. They try to conceal it, but they are fooling no one.
I hope they realize that their hate will keep them out of heaven.
Jesus said, “How can you love me, whom you have never seen, and hate your brother who you see daily.”
Leaders were elected to solve our problems
Our president and representatives have been put into office to fix the problems in Washington, and not cause them.
I don’t believe we elected Republicans just because they didn’t want taxes raised on the rich, or Democrats because they wanted taxes raised on the rich. They were elected to work together and not to worry about the election in 2014.
I am tired of hearing about what will happen if one side caves. If this “fiscal cliff” happens, then in 2014 when it comes time for the election, vote out the House along with a third of the Senate.
Christmas is being attacked almost everywhere – even “A Charlie Brown Christmas” story. Governors and public leaders are letting nonbelievers take over our Christian beliefs. If we take God and the birth of Jesus out of our lives, we might as well close up shop.
My wife and I will wish everyone we talk to a merry Christmas.
