Readers' Forum 12-21 | Obamacare is revealing its warts

JOHNSTOWN — The United States had, and I stress had, the best health care system in the world. Why else have so many well-qualified, dedicated physicians come to America?

Obamacare will put us on par with France, Sweden, Canada and other countries where patients have to wait months for appointments or are denied medical procedures we have so long been accustomed to.

As reported in The Tribune-Democrat, 24-year-olds will see a 167 percent premium increase. Sixty-four-year-old males will see a 59 percent increase, and all males will have to pay for maternity care.

Prescription coverage is a must, whether you take medications or not. This is what socialized medicine is, so get used to it.

What else is in the 1,800 pages of Obamacare that we still don’t know about? House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was right when she said: “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what’s in it.”

What legislator in his or her right mind would vote for any bill if they did not know its entirety?

Wait until 2015, when job-based insurance changes are enacted, coincidentally after the 2014 midterm elections. Companies that offer health plans to their employees will no longer be able to afford them. Millions of public and private employees, including union members, will lose their health care.

It is becoming obvious that those who opposed Obamacare from the onset were absolutely correct about its impact on the American taxpayer, and those who voted for it are now running for cover.

Overturn Obamacare.

Young hunter just in wrong place

How many of you read the news about the girl who was attacked by the black bear while deer hunting?

After the attack, she was taken to a hospital, with full recovery expected.

Now, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has contacted her and wants her to quit hunting. PETA has suggested that she take up hiking.

If I remember correctly, a lot of hiking trails around the area are surrounded by woods, and the same thing could happen while hiking.

Thank God she had family members present to protect her. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time – an innocent hunter doing what she enjoyed. She did not provoke that bear. The mother bear was just protecting her young, just like any mother would do.

The hunter was the victim, and I hope she does not quit hunting just because PETA wants her to.

Remember, do what you want, not what they want.
