Ogle Township is finally being offered Internet service, something most of us in these parts take for granted.
We suspect, though, that the residents of the Somerset County community east of Windber aren’t the only ones happy about the prospect.
You see, Verizon, the Internet provider, is also planning to install two cellphone towers in the area between Windber and Pleasantville, which should better connect Ogle Township.
Perhaps just as importantly, it will give travelers on busy Route 56 cellphone service as they traverse the sometimes-dangerous Pleasantville Mountain.
“There is no cell service here, and if you break down or there’s an accident, you’re on your own,” township supervisor Chairman Harvey Weyandt Jr. said.
Better yet, Weyandt said, “There is no cost to the township for this (cell) service. The only thing we’ve invested is our time.”
We wish Ogle Township residents good surfing and pleasant conversation, and travelers over the mountaintop, peace of mind.
