What has happened to many Christians in this one nation under God has befuddled me for more than 50 years.
Prior to the 1960s and 1970s, we prayed to God and read verses from the Holy Bible in school. No one complained or walked out of class or sued a school district because of this.
The majority had control, and the minority had rights. But now minorities rule because politicians cater to them; they want their votes.
Minorities demonstrate their demands and strongly voice their opinions at election time to get elected to local, state and federal offices those liberal politicians who side with their agendas.
What do many Christians do? Basically nothing. The only major show of unity against Satan and his influence on politicians is the annual March for Life in January, which is large in numbers but weak in results. That’s because the media pay little attention to movements promoting the teachings of Jesus.
If Christianity were to have a bird as a symbol, it would probably be an ostrich, because many Christians bury their religious beliefs in the sand, hiding from their obligation to Christ.
Meanwhile, the real symbol of true Christians is the bald eagle, the symbol of our nation, whose motto states “In God We Trust.”
Sessions of Congress begin with a prayer led by a clergyman who is paid by the taxpayers. Many members listen to the prayers and then pay little attention to what they have heard. They support rulings that go against the teachings of God. They are hypocrites of the highest order.
In the Supreme Court building, the Ten Commandments are displayed in three locations, yet the justices defy God’s rules with clearly ungodly decisions. The courts have allowed the murder of more than 60 million babies under the guise of a woman’s right to choose and women’s health.
The courts have destroyed the sanctity of marriage by overturning the Defense of Marriage Act. Jesus sanctified marriage between a man and a woman by performing His first miracle at the wedding in Caana, but I guess it doesn’t matter in the 21st century what Jesus did 2,000 years ago.
John Jay, the Supreme Court’s first chief justice, stated that “Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers.” James Madison said “To govern ourselves, to control ourselves and to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.”
But Patrick Henry might have stated it best: “This great nation was founded not by religonists but by Christians; not on religions but on the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
We all can choose to live a moral life or go against God’s teachings. We are all born equal, but then we determine the road we take.
Morality cannot be legislated. It is learned at home and in church and from the people we choose to follow.
We have just celebrated the 237th birthday of our nation. “God Bless America” was sung over and over across the land.
It’s time Christians stop being ostriches, stand up against the enemies of Jesus, and show that we truly believe “In God We Trust.”
