Readers' Forum 7/15 | Pleasant surprise to find dinner bill paid

JOHNSTOWN — My husband and I were out and about recently and decided to eat dinner at a local restaurant in Richland Township.

When the waitress brought our bill, my jokester husband commented, “Oh, we have to pay for this?” The waitress responded with a smile and said, “Yes, but it’s already paid for.” I considered it banter between the two.

We finished eating and I opened the folder containing the bill. Lo and behold, the bill was paid. My husband stopped the waitress to ask who paid it. She only said it was a woman, but was not at liberty to tell us who.

We both scanned the restaurant for someone we knew, but found no one.

So, whoever you are, we thank you very much. It certainly was a pleasant surprise and a very kind thing for you to do. Your kindness will be passed on to go forward.

Economic problems at local, national levels

According to a USA Today article, 1 out of 5 people in Johnstown are over 65, one of the highest in the country. There are as many people over the age of 44 as there are under. The region has lost 34 percent of it’s population since 1940. Unemployment remains among the country’s highest.

A report to the U.S. Conference of Mayors lists, Johnstown was 360th out of the 363 cities in its projected growth through 2020.

Since the 1940s, the Democrats and a nod-nod, wink-wink Republican family controlled the political process while the media godfathers shielded their nefarious activities. New political challengers were harassed out-of-town.

Murtha’s Jack’stown is an example of what happens when people depend on political pork instead of themselves to solve their economic problems. His statue stands as a grim reminder of what political promises cannot do for people who should do for themselves.

These same problems are occurring at the national level with an inept president who has an obvious grudge against American success. Obama’s disregard for his office have risen to the high crimes and misdemeanors that define the Constitution’s standards for impeachment. Congress is afraid of the left-wing press who threaten their re-election if they dare raise the impeachment charge against their  president.

How could a questionably qualified avatar of the radical left become president?

Manipulate the morally deficient masses with bread and circus while the media thugs bolstered by the filthy lucre of the progressive left attack traditional Americans.

God save America.
