Readers' Forum 10-1 | Yankee Shoe was 'la famiglia'

Submitted by Readers

JOHNSTOWN — Johnstown lost an icon when Yankee Shoes closed. The workers will sincerely be missed by anybody who has ever needed their services. Everything they did, they did with kindness and love. I have dealt with them for many generations, actually four.

Thanks to them, my granddaughter, the fourth generation, had lifts put in her shoes, and they seem to be added with care and love.

I will always miss Carmen (Coco) and his kind words and understanding ways. The men were so much more than a business, they were la famiglia.

Board must work for betterment of all

I want to congratulate the Richland school board on its difficult, but fair, decision to allow Kasey Caron to remain on the homecoming ballot, but on the female side.

I am certain that this decision caused many discussions, and I believe that the student body as a whole was considered once that decision was made.

Kasey must be a pretty popular kid as evidenced by being on the ballot in the first place. However, I’ll bet that there are a number of kids who really don’t understand what this situation is about. Most of the Richland students are looking forward to the homecoming and, after realizing the publicity that this has caused, may be concerned about attending.

There are so many kids who play football, are cheerleaders, honor students and band students who work hard and would love to be recognized for their achievements, not their sexual identity.

I hope Kasey has a great time at homecoming, and I hope the school board continues to work for the betterment of all students, not just one.

Obamacare equals ethnic cleansing

Adolf Hitler had his way of getting rid of certain ethnic groups. Now our god, Obama, has a way of getting rid of the sick, infirmed and poor elderly by taking away their medications and some hospital care.

People like me, on a small, fixed income, got a bill for meds that are almost a 10th of their retirement income. That could mean a nice meal out or a movie. But why should we have anything nice, we are the throw-away people.

I hope Congress has the sense to repeal Obamacare before we start dying because we just wanted something pleasant instead of wasting away because we could not afford both.

People, wake up. We don’t have a president, we have a dictator.
