Let's go, Bucs!

JOHNSTOWN — It’s a day that baseball fans across western Pennsylvania have been waiting on for the past two decades.

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Cincinnati Reds at 8:07 tonight in the National League wild-card playoff game. That’s right, an honest-to-goodness playoff game. The Pirates have played 3,332 games since their last postseason appearance – and lost 1,864 of them.

The Pirates’ troubles over the past 20 years have been well-documented. We don’t want to do that again. Instead, we want to celebrate what has been an outstanding season for the franchise and its fans. The team won 94 games and re-energized its fan base.

Whether it’s flashing the Zoltan Z, chanting “Let’s go, Bucs” or raising the Jolly Roger, fans have gotten on board the Pirates’ playoff-bound ship. We expect the atmosphere at PNC‚ÄąPark tonight – where fans are encouraged to wear black – to be incredible.

We know that the winner of tonight’s game moves on to the National League Division Series while the loser is eliminated. It will be a nerve-racking night for black-and-gold fans, but it should be enjoyable, too. It’s been a long time coming.
