Readers' Forum 10-23 | Angels come to aid of single mom

— I am a single mother raising two children on a fixed income, and on Oct. 11 what started out as something embarrassing and depressing turned into something very unexpected and wonderful.

I ran out of gas in the middle of a road. A mother, daughter and gentleman offered their assistance and pushed me into a gas station. The daughter proceeded to pump gas into my tank until it overflowed. The total was $97.65, which was paid by the mother and daughter.

I was flabbergasted, confused, humble and blessed at the same time. Never in my mind or heart did I think something like this would happen to me. What are the chances of that happening? It was an answered prayer in my time of need.

I’m sorry I didn’t get their names, but they know who they are. They are angels who helped me when I needed it, and for whom I am eternally grateful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you did. Remember, everyone, that there are good people in this world who care and go that extra mile.

I just met two of them.

Don’t let scare tactics determine your vote

Every so often, usually every four years, certain beliefs are put forth as facts by the Democratic Party regarding the Republican Party. Some are meant to sway opinion, and that is to be expected; yet some are just scare tactics. Some of these are as follows:

1. Republicans will ruin your Social Security.

2. Republicans are rich and don’t care about the middle class or the poor.

3. Things aren’t as bad as the Republicans claim (used when the Democrats are in power).

4. No matter how bad things are, it would have been worse if the Democrats were not in power.

5. If only both houses of Congress and the presidency were in the hands of the Democrats, things would get done.

Let’s look at these in reverse:

5. In the first two years of this presidency, the Democrats did control both houses of Congress.

4. This is the generic coverup, for who can say what could have been?

3. Things are worse.

2. In some previous elections, there were more “rich” Democrat contributors  than there were Republicans.

1. Neither party would wish to ruin Social Security – people from both parties rely on it and cast votes.

How dare anyone use such scare tactics on poor people they claim to care for. For those millions of people looking for a job: Who do you really want to rely on – a community organizer or a successful businessman?

One tells us he “can do” what the other has already done.
