Readers' Forum 4-26 | Is writer blinded by hated?

JOHNSTOWN — For years, Dr. Bill Choby (April 23, “Telling legacies of Clinton, Obama”) has launched ugly smears against Democrats. Now he’s undone himself. He holds President Clinton (at one point he even manages to include President Obama) responsible for the popularity of oral sex and the supposedly related uptick in oral cancer!

Can he truly believe that Americans model their sexual behavior after their politicians?

Does he think all those free-love touting, early 1970s flower children were emulating President Nixon’s bedroom antics?

Can he really be so naive as to assume teenagers in the 1990s kept Monica Lewinski’s picture under their mattress?

Could he actually think the world was ignorant about oral sex before Clinton? Or should I say before Ken Starr penned a report on Clinton that would have done Larry Flint’s Hustler magazine proud? (To what marvels of the boudoir may we have been introduced had Starr but turned his gaze on Newt Gingrich’s simultaneous affair with an intern?)

Either this was a joke or Choby’s obsession with hurling bare hated at Demo-crats has blinded him to reality and rationality.

I’ll give him a pass though if I can use the same prevision of logic to, let’s say, blame Oxycontin addiction on Rush Limbaugh. Was there a higher profile Oxycontin addict?

Or blame AIDS on Ronald Reagan. The crisis peaked while Reagan was in the White House.
