Readers' Forum 5-18 | Osborne, baseball are linked forever

Submitted by Readers

— Here are some questions I have been thinking about:

-- Shouldn’t all local baseball fans thank Dee Dee Osborne for his great contributions to the national pastime? As long as baseball is played in this region, Osborne will be remembered.

-- Will the Pittsburgh Penguins bring back the Stanley Cup to western Pennsylvania?

-- Does anyone in the current administration in Washington, D.C., have any idea who is in charge of anything? Isn’t it reassuring to learn that those in charge of our nation are totally clueless?

-- How long will it be until some progressive talking head blames George Bush for the controversies in Washington?

-- Has anyone ever deserved the death penalty more than Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the cold-blooded murderer of precious little babies in Philadelphia?

-- Do you think Route 219 will be completed before the turn of the next century?

-- Shouldn’t we wish good luck to all local high school and college graduates as they enter a new phase of their lives?

God will bring his judgment upon us

Some people who write to the Readers’ Forum get it right. They understand the main problem we face in America is spiritual in nature.

In the very beginning, in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve disobeyed God. There wasn’t any politics, but sin occurred and there was judgment for man and woman. (Genesis 3:16-19)

After many years and the propagation of the human race, “God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth.” (Genesis 6:5) There were no Democrats or Republicans, just sinful human beings disobeying God. Once again, judgment – in the form of a flood.

In today’s self-centered society, millions  of people disobey God, and millions of unborn babies are shamefully murdered. More judgment.

The sacredness of marriage has been distorted and belittled by people living together before marriage, a 50-percent divorce rate and the Sodom and Gomorrah alternate lifestyle already approved in nine states. Much more judgment.

The point I’m making is politics will not eliminate the sin that our country is wallowing in. In fact, the laws and policies of political liberty have helped create this immoral society we live in because that’s what the masses desire. Our government is the people. The people have rejected God. God deals with people who reject him. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (First Commandment)

Whether you believe the Bible or not will not alter the fact of God’s holiness and judgment. “But the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.” (I Peter 3:12)

I regretfully say one more time – judgment.

Needy are grateful for food donations

Mother’s Day has come and gone, along with the memories of mom telling us, when we were growing up, to eat.

Sadly, in these hard economic times, that is not possible for everyone.

But on May 11, many of you made a big difference in this area for people in need by leaving nonperishable food donations at your mailbox for letter carriers to collect and give to area food banks.

Two schools, Conemaugh Valley and Our Mother of Sorrows, got the food drive going by their participation. And then numerous volunteers followed by sorting and boxing the donations for the food pantries.

Mom will be proud of everyone involved, and those in need are very grateful.
