JOHNSTOWN — Accidents, fires bring out gawkers

This is my only means of reaching the people of Johnstown because people take time to read the newspaper or watch the news. How else will we know what’s going on in the world or nation?

Did you even notice how an accident or fire brings out what the world calls “Looky-Loos,” those who stop to look even though they may or may not be involved? Some are passive, some not.

Church services should be overcrowded, what with the many people who are laid off and every third family on welfare. I’m not knocking them. At times, I’ve had to turn to them. Never say never happens to us all.

We must get involved. Know what’s going on in your neighborhood. Get out and get involved. Do something for your community. Be a volunteer. You’ll fit in somewhere, I’m sure.

Young people and those involved with Crime Watch could talk at schools or Scout meetings about getting involved.

Have you noticed how many homes have been broken into and how the crime rate has gone up due to the economy?

I could mention politics, but I’d be lengthening this letter and we don’t want that.

My husband said, “I’ve been vaccinated with a phonograph needle – long play.”

Do you all agree?
