Readers' Forum 3-31 | Pastors are too lenient of sins

JOHNSTOWN — Perhaps the most misquoted verse in the Bible is “Judge not, that ye be not judged,” Matthew 7:1. To justify their own sinful practices. Don’t tell them what to do and they won’t tell anybody what to do.

That sounds good, but the problem with that kind of philosophy is everyone is right in their own eyes and can do as they please without any repercussions. (Actually, not too far from where we are today.)

God established parameters in his word that includes a disdain for sin and sinful lifestyles. Everybody is not going to read the Bible and worse yet many misrepresent it, so true Christians are to relate to people the need to realize their sinfulness.

Sometimes this may entail a definition of what God calls sin.

I personally believe that most Christians, especially pastors, have become too lenient or tolerant of the sins of the people that they are going to have to face God on Judgment Day if they haven’t repented of their sinfulness.

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment,” Hebrews 9-27.

Why do floor drains need to be cemented?

As I read the Readers’ Forum every day about the Johnstown sewer pressure test, here is a question nobody has ever asked. Why do we have to cement the floor drains shut since we are not hooking them to the new sewer line?

I have talked to a contractor friend and he said City Council said it has to do it. When I asked one of the people who is putting in the sewer lines he said we shouldn’t have to since it’s not being hooked to the new system.

I called one of the people on City Council to ask this question and he/she was busy and I asked this person to call me back when possible. Well, I’m still waiting for that call.

To cement the floor drains shut does not make any sense to me. Since they will still be hooked to the old system and not to the new system, why close them up?

What are people to do when they get water in their basements? The drains are the only way to get it out.

If we can’t get the water out, then it will cost us more money to have a contractor come in and put in an expensive sump pump system.

I tried to get on the City Council, but I guess my education and ideas are not the same as those who are on it now. So my idea is term limits on the mayor and council seats.
