Readers' Forum 10-9 | Wine festival a stomping good time

JOHNSTOWN — I would like to thank the many volunteers who gave so freely of their time to make the Sandyvale Inaugural Wine Festival a “grape” success. We could not have done it without you and we, the event committee, want you to know how much we appreciate your involvement.

We will all work together to make the second annual Sandyvale Wine Festival even bigger and better.

Thank you.

GOP determined to impede president

President Obama’s approval rating is 44 percent – that’s not very good. The Republican-led, do-nothing Congress has a whopping 10 percent approval rating. With figures like that, Congress deserves much more bashing than Obama.

Officially, the government shut down a few days ago. Unofficially, Congress shut down the first day Obama was in office. Congress fought the president on almost everything he tried to achieve and never gave him credit for what he did achieve – www.barackobama.com/accomplishments.

With all this going against him, he was still able to accomplish a lot in five years. That’s why we now have a dysfunctional government, and it will remain that way until Obama finishes his second term.

Democrats and Republicans are fighting, there’s infighting within the Republican party and moderate Republicans and tea-party Republicans are fighting. House Speaker John Boehner is being held hostage by the tea party, he’s afraid he won’t get re-elected without its support. Boehner is becoming a very weak speaker of the House. Our system is definitely broken. Why do so many Republicans hate Obama? That’s a rhetorical question; I know why.

Catholics have power to change nation

When the Catholic church was founded, there were no hospitals. Now, one out of five people in this country receive their medical treatment in a Catholic hospital.

There also were no schools. Now, the Catholic church teaches 3 million students a day in its 250 Catholic colleges and universities, in its more than 1,200 Catholic high schools and its more than 5,000 Catholic grade schools.

Every day, the Catholic church feeds, clothes, shelters and educates more people than any other organization in the world.

President Obama’s health mandate could end all this, and the taxpayers would have to make up the loss.

Also, all Catholic adoption services would come to an end – a human disaster.

We have 77 million Catholics in our country. It takes an estimated 50 million Catholic votes to elect a president.

In 2014, if all Catholics and all Christians would be united they could replace all senators and representatives with those who will respect the Catholic church, all Christians and all religions, not just Islam.

The United States was founded on Judeo-Christian values. Mr. President, maybe you should read our Constitution.

Obama shows more respect to the Muslims in our country than to the Christians.

Lets not forget all the innocent babies who are killed and will continue to be killed because this country doesn’t believe we are killing a human life.

God bless the U.S.
