IN BRIEF | University Women seek used books

The Johnstown Branch of American Association of University Women is conducting its semi-annual used book collection during October.

Collection boxes are located at Giant Eagle, 1405 Scalp Ave., Richland Township, and BiLo Market in the Westwood Shopping Plaza.

Hardbacks and paperbacks will be accepted in fiction and nonfiction.

Children’s books, cookbooks, autobiographies, bio-graphies and novels are examples of the types of books accepted.

The association cannot accept magazines, Reader’s Digest condensed books, encyclopedias or textbooks published more than 10 years ago.

Proceeds from the group’s used book sale, which will be held June 10-13 at The Galleria in Richland Township, will benefit local high school scholarships and educational activities in the Johnstown area.

The Johnstown branch also will sponsor the national production of “Freedom Train” for elementary schoolchildren in the spring.
