Zydeco zing

Zydeco master Terrance Simien will have the audience at his feet when he brings Mardi Gras to Johnstown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, Richland Township.

Simien will perform with his band, Zydeco Experience.

Before he hits the stage, Simien will present “Creole for Kidz,” a multicultural arts-in-education program suitable for students in grades six through eight, starting at 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

Tickets for the program are $5.

A buffet-style dinner of Creole favorites will be held at 5:15 Thursday at Sunnehanna Country Club, Westmont.

Tickets are $41 per person for dinner and performance and $25 for dinner only.

Tickets for the performance are $18 for general admission, $16 for seniors and Pitt alumni and $10 for children.

Hoppin’ honky tonk

Country star Trace Adkins will bring his American Man Tour to Johnstown at 7:30 tonight at Cambria County War Memorial Arena, 326 Napoleon St.

Adkins will be joined by “American Idol” finalist Bucky Covington and new country artist Justin Moore.

Scrapping spree

Scrap the day away at a scrapbooking party from 5 p.m. to midnight tonight and from 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday at St. Andrew’s School, 1621 Ferndale Ave., Johnstown.

Preregistration is required, and registration is limited to the first 60 registrants for each day.

Hungry for music

Michael Busija, minister of music at First Lutheran Church, will give a free organ recital at 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, 415 Vine St., Johnstown.

Busija will play compositions by the church’s first organist, Gordon Balch Nevin.

One of the compositions, “Sketches of the City,” reflects on Johnstown’s past and has six movements, including “The City From Afar Off” and “The Busy Mills.”

In the second part of the program, Busija will perform with a brass quartet – Matthew Barabas and Lori Anton on trumpets and Bryan Anton and Paul Walker on trombones.

There is no charge for the recital, but a freewill offering will benefit the Souper Bowl of Caring, a nationwide effort to alleviate world hunger which is held on Super Bowl Sunday.

Proceeds will go to West End Food Pantry, the Family Kitchen and ELCA World Hunger.

The beat goes on

A monthly drum circle will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, 411 Third Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johns- town.

Local musicians Rachel Allen and Reggie Harris will host the circle, which is open to the public.

A donation of $5 is requested.

Succulent sampling

A First Friday Wine Tasting, featuring wines from Oregon, will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Green Gables Restaurant, Jenners-town.

The cost of $20 includes a sampling of six wines and light hors d’oeuvres.

Romantic rendezvous

“Be My Valentine,” an evening of dessert, coffee and a romantic theatrical presentation, will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 8 and 9 at Dillweed Bed and Breakfast, Route 403, Dilltown.

The event will begin with desserts and flavored coffee in the parlor and continue with a presentation of love letters and romantic poetry.
