“Travelin’ on the Main Line Canal” will be presented by commonwealth speaker Jan Kinney at 7 p.m. April 21 at Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center, 411 Third Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.

The event will be hosted by the Johnstown Branch of the American Association of University Women.

Kinney, who has participated in master classes with traditional storytellers in the United States, Ireland and Wales, will dress as an 1860 traveler to tell the story of the canal.

Admission is free.

Association to hold symposium April 12

“Health as Wholeness: Our Faith Community(s) Role(s),” a symposium presented by the Pennsylvania Laurel Mountains Chapter of Health Ministries Association Inc., will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 12 in the Myron C. Williams conference room at Memorial Medical Center.

The symposium’s goals are to encourage past, present and future nurses, lay members, clergy and other health-care providers to provide congregations a focus on issues and innovations in health ministries and to begin health-promotion programs and ministries within their congregations.

Registration fees are $25 before Monday and $35 after Monday or at the door.

Fee includes refreshments, parking and lunch.

Richland grad’s film in regional festivals

“The Beast in Me,” a short horror/suspense film produced by Matt Lamb, a 1994 graduate of Richland High School, will be featured at two regional film and science-fiction festivals.

The film will be showcased at Cinema Wasteland Movie and Memorabilia Expo today and Sunday in Strongsville, Ohio, and Pittsburgh ComiCon April 25-27 at Pittsburgh ExpoMart, Monroeville.

Jason B. McCann of Erie directed the film and Lamb produced it for Buckethead Productions in Windber along with his brother, Daniel, and Joe Apgar of Tempo Pictures in Edinboro.

“The Beast in Me” won top honors for best horror/sci-fi film at the Wizard World Los Angeles Convention and Film Festival.
