Neil Berg’s 101 Years of Broadway, the stars singing Broadway hits, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, Richland Township.

Local high school students whose video entry of themselves singing a Broadway tune placed in Berg’s contest will perform with the cast.

Tickets are $39 for general admission; $37 for seniors and UPJ faculty, staff and alumni; and $33 for students. There is a $4 handling fee per order.

Mama’s brass

River City Brass Band will perform “By Popular Demand” at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, Richland Township.

This Mother’s Day concert will feature selections of fan favorites such as “Gaelforce,” “William Tell Overture” and “76 Trombones.”

Lance LaDuke, principal solo euphoniumist for the brass, will make a special appearance.

Magnificent harmony

Greater Johnstown Community Chorus will present “Magnificat” at 7 tonight at Belmont United Methodist Church,107 Coldren St., Johnstown, and at 7 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine St., downtown Johnstown.

“Manificat” is a poetic outpouring of praise, joy and trust in God set to music by composer John Rutter.

Theatrical spotlight

“Moon Over Buffalo” will be performed by Bedford County Players tonight and Saturday and May 15-17 at Gardner Memorial Theater, Old Bedford Village.

In this comedy, the lifestyle of the theatrical world will be in the spotlight as an acting couple unwillingly come to the twilight of their careers in a quaint Buffalo theater.

Goodbye guy

The national tour of “Bye Bye Birdie,” the story of rock ’n’ roll superstar Conrad Birdie, will perform at 8 p.m. Sunday at Arcadia Theater, 1418 Graham Ave., Windber.

The show has won eight Tony Awards, including best musical.

Musical moms

Johnstown Symphony Orchestra will present its ninth annual Mother’s Day concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Somerset Area High School, 645 S. Columbia Ave.

The concert will feature light classical favorites, pops and patriotic melodies.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children, with all mothers receiving free admission.

Tickets are available at Laurel Arts in Somerset, all Somerset offices of Somerset Trust Co. and the symphony office in downtown Johnstown.

Mothers will need a ticket to sign up for door prizes.

In focus

An opening reception for an exhibition by Johnstown photographers J.T. Allen and Jim Richey will be held from 8 to 11 tonight at Satori Gallery Studio, 155 Village St. in the Moxham section of Johnstown.

Mothers and others

A Mother’s Day weekend open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Dillweed Bed and Breakfast, Route 403, Dilltown.

Featured artist Betty Ling will display and sell her ceramic tile trivets and Nature’s Splendor decorative garden leaves.

There will be tea and light refreshments and tours of the bed and breakfast.

Artistic rewards

“The Past Scholarship Recipients” art exhibit featuring works from local high school students who have received a scholarship from Allied Artists of Johnstown from 1976 to 2003 will be on display Monday through June 1 at Somerset Trust Co., 1416 Scalp Ave., Richland Township.

An opening reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday.

Exhibiting artists are Brian C. Dumm, Norman Ed, Danielle Miller-Gilliam, Francine Keifer, Jacqueline Kessler-Kelly, Jacob Koestler, Eddie “Spaghetti” Maier, Eric Roman, Jennie Thwing and Darren Trebel.

There will be 22 pieces, with several being offered for sale.

High (school) life

“Makin’ It,” a witty, contemporary look at life in high school, will be presented at 7:30 tonight and Saturday at Forest Hills High School, 489 Locust St., Sidman.

Youth benefit

A flea market and craft fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. David’s Lutheran Church, 401 Main St., Davidsville.

Vendors will be outside in the parking lot and inside the fellowship hall for this fundraiser to benefit the members of the church’s youth group, who are planning to attend the ELCA National Youth Gathering in New Orleans on July 22-26.

There will be refreshments, food and baked goods for sale.

Energizing dancing

Rocky road

“The Geology of Johnstown,” an Act 48 workshop for teachers and students in grades two through 12, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Discovery Center, 201 Sixth Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.

The presenter will be Stephen Lindberg, adjunct professor of geology at Pitt-Johnstown.

Participants will use topographic and geologic maps, along with cross sections of both the region and state, to visualize the geologic structure and type of rocks in the area.

Collections of local rock and fossil samples will be provided, and the workshop will include classroom time and fieldwork.

Participants should wear clothing suitable for working outdoors, including sturdy walking shoes, and bring a bagged lunch.

The workshop gives five hours of Act 48 credit.

Flower power

Reiko Nakajima of the Sogetsu Pittsburgh Study Group will demonstrate the fine art and philosophy behind the Sogetsu School of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, Monday at the May meeting of the Garden Club of Johnstown at Westmont Presbyterian Church, 601 Luzerne St.

Bowling benefit

A fundraiser to benefit Richland Academy will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Richland Lanes, 1140 Frances St., Richland Township.

Richland Academy is a nonprofit organization and Johnstown’s only Montessori school.

Door prizes from area restaurants and other businesses will be given out all morning, and there will be a bake sale.

Country celebration

Collin Raye, Restless Heart and Sara Wilson will be featured in the 35th annual country music show sponsored by Indiana County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 33, which will be held at 1 and 6 p.m. July 19 at Indiana County Fairgrounds.

A five-time nominee for country music’s male vocalist of the year, Raye has five platinum albums, 15 No. 1 hits and 24 Top 10s.

Restless Heart, which had a string of hits in the late ’80s and early ’90s, have returned after dissolving in 1996.

Wilson is the Colgate Country Showdown winner.
