Whatever the time of year, antiques are always popular.
A spring antiques show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Georgian Place Shopping & Office Village, 707 Georgian Place, Somerset.
The show will be sponsored by Cottage Pine Antiques, located at 309 Georgian Place, and the other shops at the outlet center.
This is the sixth year for the show.
“We took a hiatus in 2006, then when we picked up again, it was just Cottage Pine Antiques and Georgian Place,” said John Greiner, manager of the antiques shop.
“This is our second year.”
The show will be held indoors in empty storefronts at Georgian Place and outdoors under the covered sidewalks along the courtyard.
“If the weather is nice, some of the vendors will spread out into the courtyard,” Greiner said.
“The weather is important. We expect a good crowd. We hope to have twice as many as last year.”
Greiner expects about 45 dealers from Cambria, Somerset, Washington, Westmoreland and Allegheny counties and Ohio.
Dealers will have jewelry, both fine and rustic furniture and decorative primitives as well as quilts, glassware and other items.
Antiques have become popular not only with collectors, but also with those who enjoy decorating.
Greiner said at this time of year, garden items such as outdoor furniture should be popular.
“Dealers will man their booths, haggle on prices and have information on their products,” Greiner said.
“This year we were able to get a tourism grant for advertising that should help spark interest.”
Even though there are set times when the show begins, there are always early birds who might be able to get a dealer who is available before the show hours, Greiner added.
In addition to the antiques on display, many of the merchants at Georgian Place will have sidewalk sales.
There also will be food vendors, and the Inn at Georgian Place will be open for lunch.
“We’d like to grow to rival the Uptown show,” Greiner said.
“We have some of the same dealers. Most of them set up at the summer show.”
The summer antiques show, which has been held each August for more than 30 years, draws thousands of visitors to the Uptown section of Somerset.
Admission to the Georgian Place event is free, and parking will be plentiful in the lots surrounding the outlet stores.
