RELIGION IN BRIEF | Bishop to ordain priests, deacons

The Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown will celebrate the sacrament of holy orders during a Mass at 10 a.m. today at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, One Cathedral Square, Altoona.

The Most Rev. Joseph V. Adamec, bishop of the diocese, will ordain two men to the Sacred Order of the Priesthood and four men to the Sacred Order of the Permanent Diaconate.

Deacon Matthew B. Baum of Bellwood and Deacon Michael A. Wolfe of Lock Haven will be ordained to the Sacred Order of the Priesthood.

Baum is the son of James and Donna Baum. His home parish is Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Altoona. He is currently assigned to St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Johnstown.

Wolfe is the son of Bruce and Connie Wolfe. His home parish is St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Lock Haven.

Bruce L. Becker, Ronald A. Kolonich, Jack E. Orlandi and Calvin J. Young will be ordained to the Sacred Order of the Permanent Diaconate.

Becker, a member of St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church in Geistown, is a retired judge of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Bureau of Hearings and Appeals.

He is an adjunct professor at St. Francis University, Loretto, and Mount Aloysius College, Cresson.

Becker also is a lector, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion and a religious education teacher.

He and his wife, Sarah, have three children. There are three grandchildren.

Kolonich, a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Hooversville, is the owner and president of AC Experts Inc.

He is an acolyte and a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Peter, Somerset. He and his wife, Jill, have two children.

There are four grandchildren.

Orlandi, a member of Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church in State College, is employed by Penn State, where he is a team leader for Digital Library Technologies.

He is a lector, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, Prison Ministry and Youth Ministry. He and his wife, Colette, have two children.

Young, a member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Lock Haven, is a retired teacher from the Keystone Central School District. He also is a retired supervisor of student teachers at Lock Haven University.

Young is a lector, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, CCD teacher, RCIA team member and a past member of the parish council.

He and his wife, Connie, have two children. There are three grandchildren.

Bethany Praise Band at Wesley UM church

Bethany United Methodist Church Praise Band will minister during a worship service at 7 p.m. Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Main and Church streets, South Fork.

Church to celebrate Pentecost on Sunday

Belsano (Red Brick) United Methodist Church of the Bright Hope Parish will celebrate Pentecost at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Mount Union, 9:30 a.m. at Nanty Glo, 9:45 a.m. at Belsano Faith and 11 a.m. at Belsano (Red Brick) and Strongstown churches.

The Nanty Glo church will hold a special service with the choir.

John Snyder and Tom Budner are the pastors.

Roxbury church lists Sunday activities

The Rev. Brian N. Simmons, pastor of Roxbury Church of the Brethren, will speak on “Have You Felt the Comforter?” during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service at the church, 112 Sell St., Johnstown.

The Cathedral Choir, under the diredction of Melanie Shiley and accompanied by Laura Krouse, pianist, will sing “Walkin’ on the Heaven Road.”

A Singspiration will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. The special musical service will include choirs from Hooversville, Tire Hill, Walnut Grove and Roxbury churches of the Brethren.

Tabitha Weaver is the guest soloist.

Offerings will be donated to the Walnut Grove Food Pantry.

Refreshments and fellowship will follow in the social room of the church.

Guided labyrinth walk Wednesday in Windber

The Institute of Integrative Medicine at Windber Medical Center will host a guided labyrinth walk at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on the lower labyrinth on Cambria Avenue in Windber.

Missionary to speak at Stoystown church

The Rev. Jeffrey Truscott, chaplain and lecturer at Trinity Theological College, an ecumenical seminary in Singapore, will preach during the 10 a.m. Sunday celebration of Holy Communion for Pentecost at Grace Lutheran Church, 201 E. Main St., Stoystown.

Following worship, he will speak about his ministries during a luncheon hosted by the congregation.
