The Rev. Donald R. Brauer has been named pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, 159 Chandler Ave., Johnstown.
Brauer, a former member of the Navy, received a master of divinity degree from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 2003.
He recently served in the Indiana District.
Church will have guest speaker
Dr. Hans Diehl will speak at 2 p.m. today at the Johnstown Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1035 Goucher St., Johnstown.
Sabbath school will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a worship service at 11.
A fellowship dinner with vegetarian items begins at noon.

Presbyterian conference today in Saxonburg
The Presbyterian Lay Committee will reconnect with old friends and make new ones during its regional conference today at Jefferson Center Presbyterian Church in Saxonburg.
Speakers are Carmen Fowler, lay committee president, and Parker Williamson, editor emeritus of The Layman.

Missionaries to speak at Ebensburg church
Dori and Lynn Cazier, missionaries to Kenya, will bring their messages of hope to First Christian Church, 405 W. High St., Ebensburg, during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service.
A luncheon will follow, where the Caziers will have a question-and-answer session.
Spring Meadow sets picnic, baptism
Spring Meadow Family Worship Center, Fishertown, will hold its annual community picnic and water baptism on Sunday at Shawnee State Park.
The church will provide meat and drinks.
The covered-dish picnic will begin at 3 p.m., followed by the water baptism.

Stevens Memorial noting anniversary
Members of Stevens Memorial Holy Church, 314 William Penn Ave., Johnstown, will celebrate the church’s ninth anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Elder Sylvia (Miller) Allen of Lighthouse of Love in Allentown will speak.
Ministry schedules camp meetings
Lighthouse Morning Star Ministries, Route 240, between Cookport and Uniontown, will hold camp meetings at 7 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday.
Apostle Robert Dixon of Morgantown, W.Va., will speak.

Churches schedule vacation Bible schools
The following churches will hold vacation Bible schools:

Piano recital Tuesday at First Lutheran
Tom Trofino will be featured at noon Tuesday during the July Recital Series at First Lutheran Church, 415 Vine St., Johnstown. He will play the piano.
A light luncheon will be served following the recital.
Other performers are White Noise on July 21 and Joe Gaunt on July 28.
Labyrinth walk Wednesday in Windber
A guided labyrinth walk, a sacred walk on a symbolic path which leads to a place of inner healing, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the lower labyrinth on Cambria Avenue at Windber Medical Center.
The labyrinth, composed of geometric patterns found in nature, transcends religion, geography, cultures and history.

Trinity UM plans to roast hot dogs
Trinity United Methodist Church, Somerset and Willow streets in the Kernville section of Johnstown, will roast hot dogs at 6 p.m. Friday in the church parking lot.
Information will be available at the roast for vacation Bible school, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. July 27-31.
