Premiere Wednesday for Viet vets movie

The Johnstown premiere of “We Never Got the Welcome Home,” a documentary about Vietnam veterans from western Pennsylvania, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, Richland Township.

The film was made in association with Pitt-Johnstown and the Coal Country Hangout in Northern Cambria, which received a $10,000 grant from the History Channel to film a documentary about how the Vietnam War has affected the region and people.

The screening is open to the public, followed by a reception.

Basketweavers Guild sets basket weekend

Basketweavers Guild of Bedford County will accept registrations on Wednesday for its second annual basket weekend, “Weaving Your Cares Behind 2008.”

The weekend will take place Nov. 7-9 at Camp Living Waters in Schellsburg.

Five instructors will teach a total of 12 classes during the weaving weekend.

Instructors are Dianne Masi and Dory Maier from North Carolina, Elaine Sinclair from West Virginia and Debra Hammond and Sue Matson from Pennsylvania.

There also will be basketweaving materials available for purchase.

JAHA Cash Bash will benefit FolkFest

The Johnstown Area Heritage Association is reviving its Cash Bash to benefit the AmeriServ Johnstown FolkFest.

The Cash Bash will take place Aug. 2 in the courtyard of the Frank and Sylvia Pasquerilla Heritage Discovery Center, 201 Sixth Ave. in Cambria City section of Johnstown.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and chances to win begin at 6.

The casual evening will feature chances to win $1,600 in prize money.

Admission is $30 a person, with each participant getting three numbers.

Only 333 tickets will be sold.

Chief Meteorologist Jim Burton of WJAC-TV will serve as master of ceremonies during the event.

Proceeds will benefit the AmeriServ Johnstown FolkFest.

Tickets may be purchased at the Discovery Center or by calling 539-1889, ext. 301.

Golf outing benefits Learning Lamp

The Learning Lamp will conduct its second annual miniature golf family event on July 26 at The Ranger Miniature Golf Course, Sidman.

The event, which benefits the organization’s outreach programs, will be held from 1 to 5 p.m.

A registration fee of $45 for each foursome includes a round of golf, a T-shirt for each participant, a barbecue lunch, ice cream, and prizes for the winning teams.

The Learning Lamp provides child care and enrichment programs to children in grades pre-K through 12 in Johnstown and surrounding areas.

March of Dimes’ duck regatta is set

The 11th annual Rubber Duck Regatta, sponsored by the Keystone Division, March of Dimes, will be held at 3 p.m. Aug. 10 at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, Tipton.

Official souvenir ducks can be purchased for a donation of $5 each at Northwest Savings Bank or Somerset Trust, both in Johnstown.

Prizes include a Wolf Furniture shopping spree; tickets to the Altoona Curve, State College Spikes and Johnstown Chiefs; and a $100 gas card from Sheetz.
