Success stories | C. Cambria graduate is salutatorian

Eric Nalisnick, son of Thomas and Regina Nalisnick of Ebensburg, has graduated salutatorian from Central Cambria High School with a 4.4142 grade-point average.
He was a member of the varsity basketball and baseball teams and earned a combined seven letters.
Nalisnick also was a member of the National Honor Society and high honor roll, had four years of perfect attendance and won the challenge program’s highest grade-point average.
He volunteers at YPCC’s fall basketball clinic.
Nalisnick will attend Lehigh University to study mathematics and computer science.
Students graduate from Milton Hershey
Megan Imler, daughter of Joy Imler of Cresson, and Alexandra Welsko, daughter of Davenetta Welsko of Ebensburg, have graduated from Milton Hershey School.
Imler was a member of dance, colorguard, student government, Model United Nations and Habitat for Humanity.
She was listed on the school’s honor and effort and conduct honor rolls.
Imler received the World Language Award.
She plans to attend Gwynedd-Mercy College and major in nursing.
Welsko was a member of Girl Scouts, dance, Leo Club, choir, Motorcycle Club, Rock Climbing Club and drama.
She was listed on the honor and effort and conduct honor rolls. She received the varsity H Medal.
Welsko plans to attend St. Francis University, Loretto, and major in the physician assistant program.
IUP student receives scholarship
Kaitlyn Kyle Johnston, daughter of Dave Johns-ton of Creekside and Kathleen Johns-ton of Indiana, has received the Virginia Ann Deem-Hadley Memorial Scholarship for journalism.
She is a 2005 graduate of Indiana Area Senior High School.
Sidman resident graduates with honors
Ashley Beaver, daughter of Mike and Diane Beaver of Sidman, has graduated cum laude from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Lawrence County, where she received a bachelor’s degree in public relations and communications.
Beaver is a 2004 graduate of Forest Hills High School, Sidman.
C. Cambria graduate receives scholarship
Nicholas Barber, son of Nicholas Barber of Nanty Glo and the late Mary Ann Barber, has received a scholarship to study theater at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Barber is a 2008 graduate of Central Cambria High School, Ebensburg.
Richland junior is on honor roll
Bethany Biesinger, a junior at Richland Senior High School, has been named to the honor roll for the fourth marking period.
IUP student receives leadership award
Alyssa Stiles, daughter of Ken and Janet Stiles of Shelocta, has received the Undergraduate Leadership Institute Award.
Stiles, a 2007 graduate of Indiana Senior High School, is attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Johnstown student is All-American Scholar
Kayla Varnish, daughter of Dwayne Varnish and Dona and Cliff Heaton, all of Johnstown, has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy.
She is attending Greater Johnstown Middle School.
She is the granddaughter of Lotty Varnish, Mike Varnish and Clara Varchol, all of Johnstown.
Forest Hills graduate admitted to society
Sarah Fleck of St. Michael has been accepted into Lycoming College’s Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, a national honor society.
Fleck is a graduate of Forest Hills High School, Sidman.
Forest Hills graduate to attend Embry-Riddle
Zachary Gualardo, son of Samuel and Pamela Gualardo of Salix, has been accepted to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Fla.
Gualardo is a 2008 graduate of Forest Hills High School, Sidman.
Carnegie graduate earns doctorate
Eric D. Miller, son of Glenn and Barbara Miller of Ebensburg, has earned a doctorate in biomedical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.
Miller is a graduate of Central Cambria High School, Ebensburg.
In 2002, he received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon.
He is married to the former Katrina Snell.
Area residents win photo contest
Mike Jackson of Everett and Dennis Shoemaker of Woodbury have been named first-place winners of the 14th annual Embarq Yellow Pages Photo Contest.
Jackson’s image of the Weicht Bridge in Everett and Shoemaker’s image of Bulls Creek Falls in Claysburg will be featured on the covers of Yellow Pages directories for Bedford and southern Blair/Huntingdon counties.
Second-place winners were Murray Schrotenboer of Clearville and Tim Flanigan of Bedford.
S&T Bank awards college scholarships
S&T Bank has awarded the following college scholarships:
Akshay Bajpai and Nathan Lester are graduates of Indiana Area Senior High School.
Scott Bukosky is a graduate of Blairsville High School.
Jed Fetterman is a graduate of Penns Manor High School, Clymer.
Richland school names valedictorian
Varun Sampath has been named valedictorian of the Class of 2008, Richland Senior High School.
His grade-point average was 102.5486 percent.
He was a member of Scholastic Quiz Team, orchestra, karate, National Honor Society and tennis.
Sampath plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania.
Johnstown student to attend Pitt-Titusville
Kala Marie Hiltabidel, daughter of Shar Blough and Duane Hiltabidel, both of Johnstown, has been accepted to attend Pitt-Titusville.
She is a 2008 honors graduate from Greater Johnstown High School.

Jessa S. Paruch, daughter of Bernard and Jeanette Paruch, is a 2008 graduate of Bishop McCort High School.
Bernard A. Pastorek, son of Leonard and Jeanne Pastorek, is a 2008 graduate of Bishop McCort High School.
Jill M. Sievers, daughter of William and Kathlen Sievers, is a 2008 graduate of Bishop McCort High School.
Richland graduate receives bachelor’s
Jeffrey M. Kamzik, son of Frank and Joyce Kamzik of Johnstown, has graduated magna cum laude from Waynesburg University with a bachelor’s degree in business management.
He also received the Business Management Department Award for highest cumulative average.
Kamzik is a 2004 graduate of Richland Senior High School.
Sisters are on dean’s lists
Michelle Rozo and Lisa Rozo, daughters of Albert and Colette Rozo of State College, have been named to dean’s lists.
Michelle Rozo attends Northwestern University, where she is a senior majoring in molecular and cell biology with a minor in global health.
Lisa Rozo attends the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, where she is a sophomore majoring in marine biology with a minor in environmental science.
They are granddaughters of Eleanor Trovato of Johnstown.
Duquesne collegian is on dean’s list
Joshua M. Lynch, son of John C. and Jean Babik Lynch of Greencastle, Franklin County, has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh.
Lynch is a 2007 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School, Hagerstown, Md.
He is the grandson of William and Margaret Babik of Johnstown.
