Creany graduates from Pitt law school

Nicholas A. Creany, son of Fred and Patty Creany of Ebensburg, has earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

He is a 2001 honors graduate of Central Cambria High School, Ebensburg, and a 2005 magna cum laude graduate of St. Francis University, Loretto.

While attending Pitt, Creany was a research fellow and a member of the Criminal Law Society and Pitt Law Democrats.

He worked for the law firm of Goldberg, Persky and White during his last two years of study, and was an associate member of the Allegheny County Bar Association via the student division externship with the county district attorney’s office.

He is the grandson of Dolly Creany and the late Eugene A. Creany and Thelma Springer and the late Paul Springer.

Richland resident recognized by college

Richland High School graduate Jessica L. Kurtz has been recognized for several achievements at Washington and Jefferson College.

She was presented with the Matthew Brown Ringland Prize in social sciences, A. Richard Oliver Prize in French and Charles P. Eaton Prize in independent work in liberal arts.

She also was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa national honorary society.

An Alpha Scholar, she is a member of Pi Delta Phi national French honorary society and Pi Sigma Alpha national political science honorary society.

Kurtz, who graduated in May, plans to attend law school.

Laurel Valley names band members

Alysia Drylie and Louisa Sanders were named the Laurel Valley Middle/High School band members of the month for May.

Alysia, daughter of Ronald and Tina Drylie of Bolivar, was a sophomore.

She plays the alto saxophone with the concert band, jazz band and sax quartet.

She also participated in the school’s musical theater productions.

Louisa, daughter of Fred Baker and Margaret Sanders of Seward, was an eighth-grader.

She plays the flute with the concert band, marching band,

jazz ensemble and flute ensemble.

Student selected for honor society

Marlissa Bearjar, daughter of Patrick and Helen Bearjar of Johnstown, has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.

The Atlanta-based society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved academic excellence.
