RELIGION IN BRIEF | St. James church to host fellowship

A back-to-school rally fellowship will be held from noon to 4 p.m. today at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 400 Pine St., Johnstown.

The rally will feature food, games, prizes, music and an educational speaker.

Evangelist will speak at Abundant Life

Abundant Life will hold a fifth Sunday fellowship at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Tuscany Salon of the Holiday Inn, 250 Market St., Johnstown.

Evangelist Melyn McCoy of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, Blairsville, is the speaker.

Church to offer program on finances

“7 Steps to Becoming Financially Free” program will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays from Sept. 9 through Nov. 4 at St. Anthony of Padua church, 2201 Graham Ave., Windber.

The group study will help participants achieve balance between faith and finances.

The program will feature prayer, Scripture, small-group discussions and practical exercises.

Deacon Tom Papinchak will be the facilitator.

Cost is $30 per person and $45 for married and engaged couples.

Register through St. Anthony’s church by Tuesday.

Christ Casebeer church sets gospel music fest

The fourth annual Bluegrass & Gospel Music Festival will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Christ Casebeer Evangelical Lutheran Church memorial grove, Route 985 North, Somerset Pike.

Festival groups are Linda Biery and Poverty Hollow.

A concession stand will be provided for refreshments.

A lawn chair or blanket for seating is encouraged.

Admission is free, however, donations will be accepted.

Family Life Office planning retreat

“Emptying Your Cup: Finding Peace Through Letting Go,” a three-hour women’s miniretreat, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon or 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Family Life Office, Route 53, Lilly.

Cost is $15 and includes a journal, and a friend is welcome for $5 more.

Also, a coffee cup is needed for the prayer ritual.

A covered dish is encouraged for the morning retreat. A refrigerator and microwave will be available.

Preregistration is required by Thursday.

Guided labyrinth walk to be held in Windber

A guided labyrinth walk, a sacred walk on a symbolic path that leads to a place of inner healing, will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and Sept. 17 at Windber Medical Center, lower labyrinth, Cambria Avenue.
